Astrobotany.com was founded on February 19th, 2017 by Kai Rasmussen, an undergraduate researcher in the NASA funded Gilroy Lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Kai felt strongly about the importance of researching plants in space, so he purchased the domain and and spoke with his mentors Dr. Simon Gilroy and Dr. Richard Barker. He proposed a website, astrobotany.com, taking a role as a free, public resource to get a general audience engaged in spaceflight plant biology research.
Since then, astrobotany.com has evolved into a clothing line, database, and educational tool. Astrobotany.com is an independent institution that collaborates with a variety of organizations to achieve its goal of interacting with the public and educating about the importance of growing plants in space, and plants on earth.
Let’s grow plants in space.
